As you may know, The Samowitzs have been in San Diego since last summer working for JAM doing outreach at SDSU. What, you may ask, does this have to do with Beth Jacob? Well, in the past few months they have met many Jewish students, made several events in conjunction with the community and the shul, and are always trying to bring new faces into the Beth Jacob family. In the past 3 months alone they have started a weekly discussion for girls from SDSU at a neighborhood coffee shop, hold a weekly event at their home giving the students kosher food and activities, and had a major Shabbaton in conjuntion with the "Beth Jacob Scholar in Residence" shabbos.

At the shabbaton, over 30 students from both UCSD and SDSU experienced Friday night dinner and a speech from Rabbi Ari Kahn. Several students were even set up with families in the community to enjoy the entire "shabbat experience", giving them the opportunity to observe Shabbat (some for the very first time!!) in a warm and friendly environment.

These are just some of the things the Samowitzs are doing behind the scenes on a weekly basis, and they have just begun! Last semester, Shauna Breskin joined the JAM team and has been working with the Samowitzs to try and make JAM at SDSU more and more successful. They are growing every day and look forward to including Beth Jacob in their exciting endeavor!

Coming up, students will be invited to the Beth Jacob Purim Party, so keep your eyes open and if you see a student, remember this might be their very first Purim!
